Working though Polgar and Pandolfini - how to approach the puzzles?

While not quite a beginner, I’m new to studying to improve my game. A local chess coach recommended the Laszlo Polgar “Chess” puzzle book to work through.

As I move through Mate In One, should I be evaluating the entire board position before going to the solution, or just go for the mate solution?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

In a mate in one puzzle, you just have to look for the mate, not necessarily evaluate the entire board. It’s really a matter of preference. Also. “Chess” is a great puzzle book, and try the enormous amount of mate in two puzzles too.

Thank you for the comment. Going to work through the book from front to back, so looking forward to mate in two.
