I would be curious to see a percentage breakdown of the players on Chess.com.  I would bet that most are below 1000

I find it hard to believe that most people can play at the 1000 level in a few weeks from starting chess.

I played OTB maybe 8 or 9 games between 16 years old and 17 and i lost them all,and i felt really ignorant so i went and bought many books on opening and middle games....maybe 6 books..before i started to play my first OTB game at 16 i already had read a full book tu understand what i was doing.

So when i started to play online around 1999 i already knew a lot.....

And i still bought a lot of books maybe 10 + before i got to 1300....a great book on end game and 4 or 5 on opening....a few on middle game and strategy....

We all do it if a different way......and to get better in the last few years i did thousands of tactical problems...maybe 5 thousands...

BTW a few weeks is not 2....it could be 6 or 7..playing daily at least 4 slow games every day. That is 200 games.

pointless little thread that has gone on for too long.

There's no threads on the big outage recently but a noob breaking 1000,  that has become the headline for the last month.

Congrats man. Chess is a good investment for improving ones brain. That is the reason why I play chess and it is a very good thing.
