alcohol and chess

For me alcohol has a big impact on my chess ability. Maybe it's because I don't drink much alcohol and already "feel it" after one beer ... but I just don't see things on the board anymore like I do without alcohol. I'm not a great player, but I'm also no longer at the stage where I leave pieces hanging in a slow game ... after a drink, it still happens.

That doesn't keep me from having a beer with my friends at the chess club as long as we're playing just for fun ... but at the rated tournament it will be just Coke for me.

I thought Ivandh implied that wasn't the case earlier, Cleptomania.

It's like karaoke, the more you drink, the better I sound...

I'm sure I would have noticed that if it weren't for the 3 glasses of wine...

ok trysts, good for you but for me... one is too many and a thousand never enough!  I would however play you to a game otb where one point of your opponents caused them to drink one shot!!  lol, now that would be some chess

twighead, my brotha..  I too have found that with "the weed" my game has gone way beyond,, til I realise that pawns can capture diagonally, lol.  Yea its good for some deep shitt but found thats is only good for like one game and it better be your first smoke of the day.  Consistancy on it, not so much, but does make for a great single session.  Now if ya' all wanna know a good chess drug, hmmm you ask?  Aterol.  That stuff they give to kids teens for ADHD.  Sniff a bit a that and your gonna be running 250 simulatanious games and talking to your wife at the same time.  But, and nothing ever good comes after but, while your game will be remarkably consistant and correct, It will lack any real breakthroughs or genius moments.  For any of you academics out there that don't already know look into, alot of writers ect... use it for reasons like this.  It is nothing more then amphetimene but more of a putter as far as speeds go.  They even give it to fighter pilots I read before big missions for clarity and control.  But for me, the straight and narrow is the only way I fly... err I mean play chess.

Using Adderall to pull all-nighters is amazing

I like a glass of whiskey, wine, or a good beer while I'm playing otb, but usually just the one.  I have found, though, that I only like blitz chess if I'm blitzed.

Best I've tasted is Gosling's Black Seal.  :)

But I'm really a red wine, bourbon or G&T man.  And *any* booze lowers my chess rating, but not my enjoyment of the game.
