maybe for some1 castling may look like switch hit in batsman perspective, or like googly in bowlers position for those cricket fans who are new to chess. also en passing might look like duckworth lewis rule. do u find any similiarities?

iluvzmetunas

dunno bout crikets, but chess reminds me bout grasshoppers lots.

IpswichMatt

Yes, both are in danger of being destroyed by the shorter version of each game.

No chess is for intellectual people only

bellgoundamani

so cricket is being played by fools? is that wat u mean? in usa , people not much people know abt cricket. imo, u need intelligence also with other skills to play cricket.

imsighked2

Cricket Wireless and chess? That's like comparing apples and Winkranges.

LBW - You could LOSE with BLACK or WHITE.

There are invariably a lot of 'Knight' games.

May be a 'crease' in the scoresheet.

If your opponent sledges, tell him that was a 'silly point'.

Always played with plenty of mates.

If you do well you'll get promoted.

It might be a 'bumper' round.

Both games could end in a draw.

Tell your female opponent she has a 'fine leg'.

If you make a few blunders, you've probably made a few 'slips'.

Plenty of fools and plenty of clever people in both games IMO.

Also, first ever international cricket match involved the USA - it was USA against Canada in 1844.

(Don't know if they referred to it as the "World Series" or not though Smile)

More trivia - GM Peter Svidler is a massive cricket fan. Fairly unusual that, a Russian cricket fan

'the world series' actually refers to the series sponsored by the newspaper called 'the world'. Ironically, the rest of the world assume that this means the world, and label usa as selfish and ignorant for calling canada vs usa 'the world series', when in fact the rest of the world are actually ignorant of why the competition is named this.

I have no Idea about cricket. Never seen on TV here in Finland. We play hockey. But cricket is a team sport. I prefer chess is like tennis: man againts man competition. Big serve=good opening. Good overall game=good middle came. Set, game and match=Chessmate.

The_Ghostess_Lola

....are you kidding me ?

petrikeckman

Well, even in one point the player can move the opponent like chess piece. Hit ball there and see what is the opponent's answer, he then make his/her move. No, I'm not kidding you. Are you kidding me?

The_Ghostess_Lola

Cricket is our Sport of the Caribbean. Chess is a game - not a sport.

Now, do you expect me to talk w/ you about hockey. I know nothing about hockey....so I'll keep my mouth shut.

as for the rest of this thread, chess and cricket are totally unalike, only similarity being the length of concentration required for both.

Hmm, wasn't accusing anyone of being ignorant. But it looks like there's no evidence that the newspaper "the world" ever sponsored the US baseball championships

Yes I expect it was a misunderstanding. She wasn't telling you to keep your mouth shut, she was saying she would keep her mouth shut!
