How many squares on a chessboard?

It does for some people. Personally, I would be happy to count squares not orthogonal to the board as well, but what good would it do?

Some chessboards have checkers on the other site, so 1x1+ 2x2 up to 8x8. +. 1x1 up to 10x10=589 squares + THE 2 sites on the boards= 591 and some chessboards have an extra square so maybe 592?

It is a square, so it counts as a square.

Go on Google Images and search 'chessboard', see the shape of the border on the physical chessboards
Okay, so you've just proved that the question should have been 'how many squares on a normal chessboard'?
It doesn't matter, the outside square isn't on the chessboard, it is the chessboard.
