Because there is a fundamental difference between the strength she usually plays with and her performance here (and in a bunch of games with ~1300 opponents).

Of course you CAN judge a person by their rating.

She dropped a piece on her fourth move, and played an opening--3...Ng4--that is wildly seen as bad. She made at least 3 major blunders in the game, and based on your bullet ratings, you had less than a tenth of a percent chance to win. Furthermore, she was playing against lower rated players, unrated; which is something that blindfolded players usually do. It's probable that she was handicapped in some way.

I see nothing "smelly" there.


And yes, ratings are pretty good indication of player's strength. Of course one might be under/overrated, but that shouldn't last very long.
