Well... as someone who self-identified as a tea party member I disagree, but we could argue about these things all day and and end up right where we started. I guess we could just agree to disagree.

Sorry man, didn't mean to offend you!

In our day and age, any yokel can form his opinions about the political scene of any country, and that doesn't exclude me either.

No worries man, I'm not offended!

Look at the history of chess annotation. So damn funny!

Here's a hilarious one: "1614: The white king commands his owne knight into the third house before his owne bishop."

Following that trail of thought ...

Pawn = Bauer (peasant)

Rook = Turm (tower)

Knight = Springer (leaper) or Pferd (horse)

Bishop = Läufer (sprinter)

Queen = Dame (lady)

King = König (king)

Doesn't that make more sense than their English equivalents?

cornbeefhashvili

They would all be my minions.

Hawksteinman

Charles, I think they are named after the English hierarchy, Apart from the rooks and the pawns: I don't know where the hell they came from. Yours would make more sense, but I think the pawns should be called 'schildkröte' because they move so slowly.

camberfoil
