I didn't even think of that aspect, the g pawn couldn't be the last move because with the configuration of the pawns the king could never get to the 1st rank..nice one, combines alot of themes.
That's why I posed the question about the c-pawn.

Would you like to try my latest position?
Would you like to try my latest position?
My first thought was, if it's illegal it's a good one, because it sure looks legal.

Thank you for the compliment! It is actually illegal, the board is upside down. I don’t think the pawns can pass each other with only 4 missing pieces total.

I noticed it was posted by you, but I forgot that meant to look at the coordinates, after you mentioned a bishop getting past a pawn wall.

Yeah I mentioned that to trick readers into thinking this position was from white’s POV.

I hope I'm not the only one you tricked.
This is a common trick puzzle, because it appears in a semi-famous book, but is it possible for this position to be reached with white to move?

Congratulations. You are the 18th person reply to this, but with the most moves so far.

You’re not, I showed it to an NM and he fell for it too.

I probably wouldn’t respond to a position almost 8 years old but simpler is nf3 e6 ng1 e5.
Hold on, why can't we just do a pawn uncapture?
Oh my gosh I completely missed that. I only considered retracting a pawn move, that means the position is legal.

Leither also considered retracting a pawn move and found the right pawn.
Leither is really good. He might even be able to find a proof game for this position. But I would rather he kept working on #6179 in the Shortest Proof Game thread.

That one is definitely illegal. g2-g3 and promotions are both impossible and there is no other retraction that unchecks the black king.
Bishop on b1 can’t get there
