King vs King Endgames!

This started out as a joke, But it seems interesting... Here are my ideas:

King vs King "Endgames" (a.k.a. Duels)

Goal: Stalemate the other king

Rules:

Since the standard rules of chess do not allow for any stalemating business, we have to modify them a bit.

Kings can only travel on their color, but can cature in the same way as they do in chess. Reaching a far corner allows that king to travel ONLY on the opposite color. Such a situation could be dangerous, as one king could easily trap the other in a sort of "mating net":

ideas? (please be open-minded, I put this in the "Fun with Chess" forum Smile)

It's kind of interesting but all possitions would probably be easily calculable.

yeah that's what i was thinking too, a tablebase could easily be made because there exist at most 4 legal moves..... it still would be an interesting exercise though. i will give it a try and see what i come up with.

this means that in order to travel on dark squares in your example mrguy88, given the board orientation (white starts d1, black starts d8), white can only change colors on a8 and black on a1. otherwise, this could happen (draw?):

sorry for the confusion.

Oh I see now! By far, I thought you meant the it needs to get right into the corner, meaning a2, b1, g1, ect. were banned.

You are all wet . . . It will never be a draw until the  FIFTY MOVE RULE is applied.

Then it is officially a draw!!!!

sigh..... some people just..... never mind.

edit: the game is too simple. here are some revisions.

we are throwing all the rules made on the first post out. kings can move like normal kings, except when faced with direct opposition, after which the king that is to move must either retreat or move to the right (not left). this allows for a mating net to me set like this one:

glerpydoo

so now this small variatn of chess is line an exercise to practice something done in almost all endgames: gaining the opposition. the opponents must be calculating and precise in their visualization, as losing direct opposition will mean losing the game.

glerpydoo

furthermore, it is even a win if diagonal opposition is gained. observe:

what is it, andrewf2002? confused? Wink

really though, if you're gonna say something, just say it.
