Longest checkmate problem in history

Very nice puzzle I found somewhere, detailing the longest checkmate problem I've yet seen, by Otto Blathy in 1860.

A bit snappier is 1.Rd1+ Bd4  2.e4+ Kd6  3.e5+ Kd5  4.c4#  Cool

Toying with the opponent for almost 300 moves can be fun, but in a rated OTB game I think I'd take the four-mover, lol.

Argh, you're right, I missed the pawn when setting up the diagram, thanks for pointing it out.

Alright everyone... just pretend it's there.....

But why would I "just pretend it's there" when I can just go to this instead? Undecided

stubborn_d0nkey

I just edited the fen in the pgn :)

Awesome! :)

I think your opponent is more likely to lose on time than to get mated.

MSC157

I think opponent would call 50-move rule in this case ;)

stubborn_d0nkey

A pawn move or a capture resets the 50 move count

MSC157

Pawn move too? Oh, I didn't know that. I thought just capturing and promoting. Thanks!

You know you can edit your posts, and any diagram that is in them, right?

stubborn_d0nkey

Pawn moves and captures reset it.

And interesting chess game when it comes to the 50 move rule

I don't think you can, I'd have to do it all over again, and it took me a while the first time, stubborn_donkey very helpfully put up the right one anyway.
