Well when I play, I usually lose. Is there any way to get the element of surprise?

Your opponent will most definitely be surprised.

One way to surprise your opponent is to try to confuse yourself.

Unfortunately surprising the opponent might cause them to think.

That was deep...

Seriously though, surprising your opponent probably isn't the best way to win a game. Just try to find the best moves, assuming accurate play from your opponent. The only time I try to surprise my opponent for the sake of surprising him is when I'm obviously lost, and my only hope rests in my opponent making a mistake.

Suprising someone may even end up into a stalemate.

There you go.

Normal games are for plebs.

I wonder if chess is a normal game.

There you go.

How is that a stalemate when white has, like, 20 legal moves?

Avatar of Dale

Aha Macer75 you are right AgentGarak finally discovered how to surprise someone.

The 20 move stalemate variation is very surprising.

macer75 you are correct. And wrong. The Kings Moved Three Times The

Same Move. Cool

I see. However, that's threefold repetition, not stalemate. And as far as I'm aware, a draw by threefold repetition can only be claimed right after it has occurred - you can't go on to play more non-repetitive moves and then claim a draw because of threefold repetition that occurred earlier.
