"Why Resign?'

So, my mom and some of my friends think it's silly that I resign in some chess games. Perhaps I should show her these, in which I TOTALLY could have won based on my ending position:

I explained to them that a) resignation means you know you've lost, and you don't have to wait for your opponent to checkmate you, and b) it's often a gesture of respect. My hat goes off to thomas_loiselle for his solid play here. :)

P.S. From now on, I'm only challenging <1000-rated folks! :P

Yeah your position looks pretty hopeless in both of those.

Sometimes its good to play on to learn or try to claw something back, a draw maybe but yeah it is a respectful gesture to resign. On the other hand its the height of rudeness when in a situation like that were your getting beat early on to disappear and leave the other player hanging about for two minutes. Seems worse on the night shift then the day shift(European time).
