1 or 2?

Is this a winner?

I guess not

This game went for 251 moves. Some of it looks like neither side knows what to do to win, but nothing was a blunder or stupid move. Is any of it ridiculous?tongue.png

Even 190. g7 Ra7 191. Kh8 or 214. g8=Q is possible, but well, for the sake of this post, 251 moves are really interesting.

Yes, there was faster ways for White to win. If I remember correctly the computer didn't score those moves as blunders. White preserves his superior position, but doesn't take the fastest win possible. It's almost like a cat playing with an almost dead mouse.

Thanks for watching the game. Hope it didn't waste your time, but this thread asked for ridiculous, weird, and long games.nervous.png

Not that often we see a 251 moves long game. Most games end in less than 100 moves. Sadly, you have not broken the record in this forum topic yet.

I didn't notice that game with 490 moves. That's pretty funny. I like all the knights clustered together harassing the opponent, but never mating for a really long time.

That game never broke the 50 move rule? (it's too late for me now to check by watching the game and looking for a span of 50 moves with no promotions/ no captures).

A great (well constructed) game!blitz.pnghappy.pngblitz.png

It was an actual game, but I tried to be funny. The 50-move rule is with regard to the successive or consecutive number of moves made without any pawn move or any capture. The action of pushing the pawns or capturing resets the 50-move count again. I paid special attention to the game to ensure that the 50-move limit was not violated throughout the entire game (and you can verify in your own time and own target that at no point in the game did I violate the 50-mule rule, simply by observing notations like Kxa5 or c7 which correspond to captures and pawn pushes respectively, followed by counting the number of moves between two such captures and/or pawn pushes), so the maximum number of consecutive moves that I made in the game was 49, whilst keeping threefold repetitions at bay. Unfortunately, around move 300, I realised that I could not keep the game going as I only had three pawn pushes remaining. Thus, I had no choice but to stop moving my king after move 488. As to whether my opponent would claim draw or not, that is another story, but perhaps the opponent would not even claim draw even if I exceeded the 50-move count.

Maybe if I put this game into the Chess.com analysis, the page will hang.

I believe the chess.com analysis should work for the game, although I'm not sure. (it works for the 251 move game).

Even if your opponent offers a draw, you would not have to accept it (unless you hit the 50 moves). I think with all your knights, the opponent would claim a draw at the earliest allowed opportunity. But you never got to the 50 move limit, so you got the win. Good work!happy.png

As in what EndgameStudy means is that, there is no need to unnecessarily repeat a position. In my game at one point, I repeated several moves after realising that one Black pawn blocked the path of my king in such a way that my king was unable to avoid travelling along previously accessed squares.

I can't remember whether my opponent offered a draw (it was Computer2-MEDIUM) in the game. Maybe not, maybe once. Of course, making normal chess moves automatically reject draw offers that the opponents make. An exception is if I exceeded the 50-move allowance (I think that if the opponent offers a draw before you make a move, and subsequently you make a move that causes a threefold repetition to occur, the draw claim would be rendered invalid since a move made by you nullifies the offer, but the opponent can again offer draw once more, in which case the draw is in effect immediately).

If I put the game into analysis, maybe the whole page will be filled with missed mates and faster mates.
