What If Chess Was Played On A Ten Times Ten Board?

Sort:

What pieces would be added?  Would it be harder to play or easier?  Would their be new openigs?  If so, what would they be called?  You can post new questions or try to answer these ones.

There have been variations played on that size board in the past and probably are some newer variations too.

In Xiang Qi, there is a piece called the cannon which is like a rook but jumps over another piece to capture. In non-capture, it moves like rook. It's the ideal piece to be added in 10x10 chessboard.

Size doesn't matter!

Hey, just asking.

it's not anger, it's the truth :P but seriously, i think it would become a little similar to Go, in terms of strategies about controlling some strategic zones.

Go is simultaneously the easiest and the most complicated game :(

I play Xiang Qi, Chess and Go.

Considering the origins and evolution of chess, would not an Archer be a more appropriate and ideal piece to add to a ten by ten board? It could move like the bishop with a shorted range, maybe three or four squares, and would jump pieces to capture. It would be placed between the Bishop and Knight. Openings would certainly be more complex but would look very similar to current openings.

no, I don't like that idea.

So... you're responding to a comment that was made 7 days ago, which you already responded to, and which doesn't make sense?
