In the clueless crossword below, each letter of the alphabet is assigned a number.

Can you guess which number represents the letter "Q"?

All words in the crossword are either terms related to chess, or surnames of chessplayers. To make things easier, T=12, U=13 and D=14.

The letters of the alphabet are A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J,K,L,M,N,O,P,Q,R,S,T,U,V,W,X,Y,Z.

EDIT: and 4 = N. after that i gave up.
