I do not play chess (well) enough to have it on my license plate. Are those things not childish? I saw one saying "big1" .

I'm playing so badly these days I may have to get PATZER as my licence plate.
I agree though many are childish but a few are funny or imaginative. An Army Sargeant here years ago had HUP-234, I thought that was amusing & one that they banned years ago was 6UL-DV8 (Best said with a New Zealand accent)

I've seen a few U.S. plates here used as ornaments, hanging on walls or in garages & some in American themed restaurants but I've no idea how they got them. As far as I know there isn't much market for them here. Maybe something movie themed would be valuable like the plates off Steve McQueens Mustang in Bullit or maybe the Dodge Challenger plates OA-5599 from Vanishing Point. The Aussie versions for those plates were snapped up long ago & change hands for huge $$
