you probably mean 'succeed' or 'excel'.
Who said this quote?

I know I read it my chess book Russians versus Fischer. Yet it's such a long book, and I've skimmed it a few times (skipped over the games, just read the narrative, but I'll go back to the games!). That's where I found the quote, in the narrative. But for the life of me I can't find it again.

I finally found the pesky thing!
Page 63 of Russians versus Fischer:
"After Buenos Aires, Taimanov concludes, 'for a whole decade I used to meet Fischer - at tournaments, in ordinary life, at official bangquests and picnics, on walks - and I can swear that I never saw him without a chess set and chess books. He was immersed in chess; that was his natural elemenet, the only one in which he breathed freely. And chess reciprocated his dedication. Najdorf once said: "If you want to succeed, you have to put chess first in your life. But that is not enough - you must also put it second and third, as Fischer has done.""
I put the quote on my profile here too.
It went something like:
If you want to exceed, chess must not only be first priority in your life. It must also be second, and third.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.
