A Personal milestone: conquering the Colle system.

Here is a game in which I finally defeat the Colle System, which has dominated me in the past.

A nice mate with the Knights, but technically, to be a "smothered" mate doesn't the king have to be confined by his own pieces not one of the opponents' as in the classic Philidor's legacy pattern?

Still any blow against the Colle warms my heart.  (Although you did not beat it straight up, but employed a King's Indian setup, my favorite thing to do, avoiding the main line so prominently advocated by Koltanowsky.)

A great smothered checkmate!

It's odd Black decided to continue in a Colle fashion after 2...g6. A favorite saying of Koltanowski was, "You do not have to be othodox about sticking completely to the Colle line if your opponent varies." Koltanowski actually answered ...g6 with c4!

7.a4? - Castling is much better. White needn't fear ...c4 nor ...dxc4.

8.h3? - White wastes more time on weakening pawn moves.

9.Bb1? - White is asleep at the wheel.

13.c4?? - Hanging a pawn.

Nice checkmate. :)

=) thanks for the comments, this is especially heart warming because I have lost in USCF tourneys to the Colle System, being prepared only for Queen Gambit lines.

How do you give Bh6 an exclamation?  Horrible move!  Game was even until that move.  Move 19 changed the entire advantage for white, and was beginning of the end for.  You played well, but he blundered the game.

sure, Bd3 protects e2,  but Bh6 prevented the immediate Ng3.

Nf3 was the right move on 19.  I thought Bd3 also first, but Nf3 is better.

Does anybody know a link to learn how to insert tables with movements like this?
