beatiful reaction of black. what sort of attack.
Good tactical play in the Ruy Lopez (for black)
beatiful reaction of black. what sort of attack.
Thanks Edgar - This attack is not the Berlin Defence which instead is 3. ... Nf6.
3. ... Ne7 is called the Cuzio defence. And I'm starting to like it!.
I've just finished a recent 'long' live game, and incorporated this attack again, this time with new and nice tactics that tripped up my opponent:
Happy with this one!
Here is a blitz game I just finished involving this defence, the Cozio Defence, again with success in an interesting game:
Very interesting games. :)
I think I'll have a look at the Cozio defence, it seems to lead to fascinating middlegames.
By the way, it seems to me that in the game you played against Acburst, 32. Qd2 would have destroyed your chances of winning. Do tell me if I'm wrong; although I understand that a blitz game is hardly conducive for deep thinking.

Thanks for reading/posting! You are certainly right about the middlegames, and you are most certainly right about 32. Qd2 which is why I gave the played move 32. g5? a question mark... When I played 31. ... Rc8! I did annotate that it was at least 2 moves late of a play, but moreover, 29. ... Qc2! would have been decisive as it threatens mate on b2 and should white protect with a rook on b2, my bishop would have taken it.
The Cozio is one of Chess' most unexplored territory, and thus it is very exciting to play since we may (advertently, or inadvertently) stumble across new lines of play and/or innovations!...
This is my new favorite way to play the Ruy as black, replacing my old favorite: Bird's Defence to the Ruy (e.g. 3. ... Nd4!?), which is also very interesting, but much harder to play. What I have found, however, is that the Cozio leads to somewhat similar situations/positions as those I liked about Bird's Defence, though I am also looking at trying 3. ... Nce2!?, which I don't know what it is called, if anything, but is certainly an intersting gambit to try ...
I'll keep posting Cozio games on this thread, please feel free to contribute!
Hello all, have a look at this fresh 3 min blitz game. I've toyed around with many systems against the Ruy for some time, but then abandonned them when the theory seemed to indicate that it was unsound. However, I did still like some of the threats possible after the positions achieved around the e5 pawn, so I tried something 'new', as in new to me.
I forgot the name of this response, I believe it is the Berlin Defence if I'm not mistaken, but in any case, though it was 3 min blitz, I still thought it was a good game as it lead to some nice tactics which won me the resignation (and the queen!)
Take a look, feel free to comment/analyze:
