Have you ever played a '!!' move?

@ jackfast: very nice games! Although, in the first game, what about 18..f6 for Black? And in the second game, 16.Rxg3 for White? I mean, I'm sure you would still have had some good initiative, but I wonder if those positions might possibly have been defended?

I don't know if this deserves a !!, but it's the best move I've played so far.

That is certainly a nice move, and respect to your opponent for not taking the bait! Smile  I think 24 Nf4+ (not blocking the Rook), followed by 25 Bc4+ would have been good as well.

I agree. Given my patzerish play, the one I posted is certainly a !! for me, but a run of the mill! for an expert and nothing at all for a GM.

Yes, I think I'd agree that to some extent it's relative to the situation and maybe the time control should come into it too.  Personally, I'd say that an '!!' should have something special about it - something that goes beyond just a 'good' move and shows deeper insight than you might expect from a player of that level.

So, findingnemo7, what's your best move ever?  Smile

I always liked this one, maybe because it was a sacrifice that wasn't a capture. I guess it's a bit simple a combination for a !! though.

Robert_New_Alekhine

Yes. I've also played a !!? move

EdAidi

i dont think g5 was a !! move becasue i think anyone would do that at your rating

condude2

Just recently played this, it's probably one of my best ever tactics, and might deserve an !!.

That was a good one. Kudos.

if 3 ...Rxb7 4.cxb7 is not mate, mate. 4...Qd7 5.Bxd7 5...Kxd7 and you are up in material by 2 points, but by no means mate.... I give that a !

I'm not as good as you guys, but this is a game I played on the PlayMagnus app:

Opening info: Nimzo-Indian Defence, Kasparov Variation, ECO Code E20.

When I played Ke2!, I thought it was such an effective but quiet move and a novel idea (at least for me).

P.S.: condude2, that was an awesome game! Thanks for sharing.

Some years ago I (white) made a nice move in this position:

Strangely the two posts that I answered to are gone, so I delete what I responded to them.

That's why he promotes the pawn and doesn't play Bxd7 to mate.

@Rumo75: Now that is a surprise move to threaten to win a queen. But did it work out? I am not as good chess player as you are. In the next diagram did I show the moves I can see happening. I would love to learn that pattern.

Are there better moves for white then I am showing or am I wrong in my judgement of the situation that black has the easier game?

TitanCG

I've played plenty of ?? moves and a ?!? once. I don't know what that means... :D

LoekBergman

@findingnemo7: now that is an escape! Beautiful!

I would have played Be3 in the initial position in order to get that bishop back into the play and defend the undefended rook on c1. But I would not know what to do against that a-pawn and get crushed slow by slow. You on the other hand are creating another threat, grabbing the initiative again. Great way to think. Thanks for the example.

I can think of maybe two games of mine that deserved perhaps '!' here is my first one... a double rook sac for mate
