I thought I was a genius

I concocted a genius scheme which I had thought of doing as of my 12th move.... it depended on how he moved his queen on his 15th move... he bit into my plan and did exactly as I had hoped!!  A double rook sacrifice planned perfectly!  A beautiful finish!!  Oh wait....... DAMMIT!!!!

cramp

lol you should took the bishop on move 13

zlhflans

Nice you put it up. I've had some doozies too!!!

N f2+!

castle queenside then try it - he probably missed the smothered mate too

dwaxe

There would have been the chance of Rxf2, if your opponent did not see the smothered mate. And you would be down a rook and some pawns.

dlordmagic

This is the sequence you should have tried to get the smothered mate. given his rating he probably would not have considered taking the knight with the rook.

I would reconsider the term genious, maybe average player would suffice.

Thanks for the contribution... very constructive... you should probably run your sarcastic posts through a spellcheck first.  Its interesting to see someone who uses the word "suffice" in a sentence but can't spell "genius"

Obviously I don't think I'm a genius......

when the enemy queen threatened to storm you unbuilt castle 0-0-0 was best.

Definately.. but since I thought I had checkmate all I wanted was 1 move in which to execute it.. and if he would move his queen away from the checkmating area then why not give up 2 rooks if I'm about to win (so I thought)

Thats how you do a smothered mate. I hope you learn from it.

ChessSoldier

That's what happens when you attack on the wrong side of the board.  Your play belongs in the center.  Why anyone is saying you planned well is beyong me.  It's more accurate to say you just planned.  It's not a plan if it's based on hopes and desires, like when you say "he did exactly as I had hoped."

If you played according to the board, you would've seen the need to castle and stack up in the center, along w/ using your knight there.  Ng4 is just the wrong idea.

I would definitely NOT plan on someone not playing a certain move. Taking the knight wasn't all that unlikely, even for a 1150.
