Missed a mating net.... thrice.

I played this 3/0 game. I won mainly because my opponent allowed a pawn fork.  But I'm posting it here because a computer analysis demonstrates how I missed forced mate three times.  I took a different route that apparently wasn't forced... though I think my advantage was great enough to allow me some wiggle room.  To be honest, I don't believe I'd had ever found the forced line under blitz time controls.

I'm never confident enough to play any sort of gambit. Good game!

I only play blitz anymore.  I love gambits - trading material for tempo.  In blitz, the investment is minimal so winning or losing isn't a big deal.  Having fun is, however.

The wonderful member Spektrowki who usually writes about Soviet chess and who has helped me a lot over the years understanding those times,  just published in his blog a clever game he won : https://www.chess.com/blog/Spektrowski/channeling-my-inner-tal .

He adds that playing blitz is a time to be adventurous.  I agree with him.

I love the King’s Gambit! I used to get my pieces handed to me from either side so I avoided it like the plague. But I tried it on a lark a few months ago and for some reason I’m getting many enjoyable, playable, complex games out of it with exiting wins (and losses ha!)

It’s easy to miss a lot of winning (and losing) moves but there are still many winning lines to choose from. And sometimes hunting for and finding the win for a few moves while your opponent tries to avoid it makes a more satisfying win! Very nice win! I’m sure it was as enjoyable to play as it was to watch. Nail-biter!

Batgirl, according to my research, you are playing at Candidate's level....check out Tigran Petrosian, missing a mate in 1 against Korchnoi, in their 1974 Candidates' Match!
