Outplaying your opponent tactically

Dear All,

One good thing about blitz game is that often present lot of tactical opportunities, & one can hope to get away even when playing slightly inaccurate.

Today, I played a game with a similarly rated opponent. My opponent playing with black managed to put me on a back foot with lot of pins- but nevertheless I managed to fight back & reach to a completely winning position.

Please feel free to give suggestions/comments.

Not a bad game.

If you want to be an English player, you must stop putting yourself on the defensive with 2 d4 after 1..e5.

Yes, the problem is where to put your queen after black trades pawns and your queen gets hit with 3..Nc6.

You wouldn't have to face that problem if you hadn't practically forced black to take your d pawn with 2 d4. You should look at some master games in that line.

There's a reason that out of 23,000 games in this line, only 5 players ventured 2 d4. It's not a good move.

How many moves does Stockfish think ahead ?  I disagree with it's recommendation on move 12  ie; 12 Bxe4 wins a Horse however if that variation is continued, I see 12......Bxe4 as OK for Black, as he restores material equality by then capturing the pawn on d5.   If 13 Qxe4 then Black wins with Qxc3 check followed by chopping off the Rook in the corner.

I believe your 12th move B b2 showed cunning and is the star move of the game.    It's plans like those that will move you up the Rating ladder and develop you into a superior player

After 12 Bxe4 Bxe4 13 Qxe4 , black can't capture the pawn on d5. His knight would be pinned. Also, winning the rook on a1 loses the queen.

not sure what you are talking about,ie;

12 Bxe4, Bxe4   13 Q-b3 ?, Bxd5 with decent game  or  if 13  Qxe4, then 13....Qxc3 check followed by 14.....Q x a1

Black loses his queen in that 13.. Qxc3+ line and 14 .. Qxa1 line. Look at my previous comment.

ahhh very good.    Then White has a slight material edge after Queens are off the Board.    So 12 Bxe4 as Stockfish recommended is best.

If you gave Stockfish infinite time, as far ahead as possible. I think chess engines these days make the decision to move if they have reached a stable position in its calculations
