The Amateur`s Journey
At the age of 18, I sat down in front of my first computer to play my first ever move in the game of chess that still boggles my mind over 18 years later. The chess software I found lying beside me in a messy office room was like an accident. And, this is the type of coincidence that I refer to as The Amateur`s Luck.
A GM and world champion renowned for his exceptional endgame skill and speed of play was once quoted as saying: You may learn much more from a game you lose than from a game you win. You will have to lose hundreds of games before becoming a good player. This is the quote that I believe describes me best, as I have gradually discovered a chess world that would change the way I think for the rest of my life.
The following game is about, FIRST, a disappointing loss in the endgame, and SECOND, the one detail that makes this result (0-1) different from the rest… In a few words: Bit by bit, step by step, or one move at a time, the amateurs are like the pawns (or smurfs) that whisper to you “this game is real!”. And, the only luck in the endgame is the clock ticking on both sides of the board.
