Good quality annotations although is whilst really a word?

It is hard to believe playing 7...b5 instead of 7...Be7 can put the game on
such a tightrope.  This is an exciting variation.

This line is almost suicide for black .. with both 12 Qd3 and  12 0-0  scoring over 60% for white , I dont understand why anyone would play this for black.

Avatar of bjazz

It was a hard lesson learned. No such things as free pawns it seems. :)

Agreed.  Well, now I know exactly why I wouldn't go that way.

bjazz...yeah, I don't think there's any time or space for Black to take free pawns in this line.  Playing it from Black...all I feel is like I'm trying to keep a broken household from falling apart.

I was kidding about the word whilst and we don't speak proper English in the
United States anymore.  I'm afraid those days are long gone.

We just like a "t" on the end of words e.g. earnt, burnt, learnt etc. Laughing

This is so unclear. I try to avoid such lines.

Like whilet? :)

CM Kacparov: I would've avoided these lines by any means necessary, had it not been the opening position of the theme tournament. Luckily, I can recycle the misfortune upon others half of the time.

And Afaf, I thought you quit forums already :)

Ah, right! 'Whilst' is the past tense of 'while'.

Most people in the UK use 'whilst' now as a sort of Sunday-best version of 'while', in the hope that it sounds more impressive. The older difference in meaning is disappearing, and only old flatulents like me still observe it.

I live in Virginia where we speak country.  "Hey, can you whilst(whistle) that
song?

oops, this is a forum topic?  It popped up under Tracked Activity because it belongs to a friend...and then I just assumed it was a blog of his.  Ok, I'll go away now.  lol

When I'm drinking, I'm usually distracted looking around for cute young boys...wouldn't be much fun, actually.  :)  Ok, I'm out.

Actually, whilst derives from M. Eng. whilest, which is merely the adverbial genitive of while with a parasitic -t. The adverbial genitive is totally unnecessary here, and the parasitic -t may have just been added as analogy with superlatives.

Essentially, whilst is just a variation on while that means exactly the same thing but is used less often and is chiefly British.

Off topic:

I just use words the way my English grammar teacher taught me (or a close approximation). I wouldn't fancy a haunting from Mr. Corbett, a tall pin-striped man with a military moustache and a penchant for striking boys that didn't learn quickly enough. Ah! the good old days!

On topic:

"Very tasty victory. Qxh2 was way too greedy and retribution was swift."

Agreed, Ra7 and a later Rd7 is the usual plan from what I can gather.
