Caruana just played Rg1 against a Najdorf in his game with Firouzja! (1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 a6 6.Rg1)

Very interesting! My favorite line against the Najdorf is h3. It can be very fun even when black plays h5 and stops g4.

Yes, with a nice win, that could've been even faster if Caruana had found e5!

I didn't know this mate pattern existed until I found it today on a 30+ move game. A couple of games later, i get to use it in a miniature. Strange coincidence.

This is the first game btw, just to complete the story, I know it's not a miniature, guys.

Almost worth missing the win in the opening (my only 'mistake') to have the opportunity to play the delicious finale in this bullet game. I challenge anyone to find black's saving move on move 17 (the crucial error).

Hi Elroch, good to see you here as well.

Also, I'm gonna take a wild guess and go for 17...Be3! when Bxe3 Bxd3 it's equal material and Bxd8 Bxh6. But I'm only finding it because you're telling me there's a save there. During a bullet time scramble, good luck catching that.

Elroch

Yes, well done. Not an easy move even with plenty of time, IMHO.

I've won in only 31 seconds. LOL!

Just joking! Maybe my opponent here just got distracted long enough so I won by abandonment. happy

Seriously, here's mine...

Great Respect to my opponent here! Thanks to him for the Good Game!

Not the most accurate, but (with the help of my opponent) quite nice.

Nice game, mistakes and all. Loved 22.Rxh5!

You might know that in Fischer's My 60 Memorable Games, he made the same exchange sac on h5 in three games versus the Sicilian Dragon. He commented that he'd made the move so many times, he 'felt like applying for a patent'.

Nice. At first I thought 18...Ne8 saves black. But it pretty much ends up the same way!

What a game! Good thing you mated the guy before you ran out of pieces!wink

This started out as a Reti. Then I threw in the dubious Rg1.....
