putting fire in the caro-kann

Some interesting tactics in the caro kann with a beautiful ending. The middle game features dubious play by white - but the ending makes it worth it.  Enjoy!

An absolutely brutal game. Well done, bro! Was this another live game?

shuttlechess92

yes, it was 10 min blitz!

Andrei_Ivankov

I've played Caro-Kann my whole life and I've never seen anyone who managed to play worse (Karpov might have shot that guy if he saw this), but credit to you too - for exploiting his blunders, good job I got to say :)

Andrei_Ivankov

17... Nxd3?? is horrible !

shuttlechess92

haha - true I believe the caro-kann is the opening that says "I'm better than you so I can play whatever first move I want and still beat you"

andrei_ivankov -  your passion for the caro -kann is amazing, mind posting the best game you've played with it? xD

Andrei_Ivankov

18... Nxb2?? is another losing blunder , the complication line 18... 0-0 19. c or Rxd3 b4 would lead to uncertainty, suddenly white's attack diminished and it is black that retain the initaitive, but once white is allowed to play 19. Qxf7+ he wins the game, undisputedly...

shuttlechess92

yes! in fact 17...exf5!  and white has nothing since 18. e6 0-0!   and black's king is safe but white's isn't.  This game could have been posted with a different result if that occurred!

Andrei_Ivankov

but you're right to proceed in the line you played and truely deserves victory, I hope your opponent don't get upset over Caro-Kann, I've posted a game of me in a cup final some week ago, but I can't seems to find my own post anywhere...

shuttlechess92

haha I doubt that my opponent will give up the opening just after one loss =)

Caro-Kann my fanny. After seven moves the opening had transposed into a standard French Defense position.

I always dread the caro Kann when someone plays it.  I can't ever seem to get an active game.  Good job.  Yes he made some questionable moves, but so what?  You still had to play and find the moves you did.

It is silly to look over games and critisize the losers moves in an effort to diminish the winners game.

Good job as always.  I loved the pawn move!

shuttlechess92

@ ricardo_morro    this isn't a french game - sure the pawn formation is similar, but black spent two tempi trying to play c5 - but his compensation is that he managed to exchange off white's ever dangerous light bishop.

@ immortalgamer:   thanks! as it's a blitz game, of course humans can't make computerized accurate moves so the only thing we can do is play good chess!

I agree with your comment - although we could criticize the losers move in order to show where improvements can be found. Though should the game be posted to "glorify" the winner then of course we shouldn't do that ;)

For what my two cents is worth, i've found the panov-botvinnik attack to be easiest for me to play because of it's open nature.

btw, it was a really good game by SC for a 10_0 blitz. =)
