Hello,
I don't know why, but smothered mate is my favorite kind of checkmate. I learned basic chess tactics from Chessmaster, and when the narrator gave a sample that ended with smothered mate, I've been on the look out for SM opportunities since.
At my level opponents seem to always miss the knight/queen combo to set it up.
