The worst game I played today, but I won?!

By the way, today is my first ever time trying King of the Hill (KOTH). This is the reason that I was paired with someone hundreds of points lower rated; my rating is inflated and I'm getting lucky xD This wasn't my first ever KOTH game today, but I learned the rules about ten minutes before starting this game.

It is a chess variant. Same rules of "normal" chess, except for one huge implicating difference: If you can get your King into any of the 4 central squares (d4, e4, d5, e5), then that side instantly wins the game - regardless of position or material! Obviously this subtle difference changes strategy a lot. Some players like to rush the King out early, or delay castling, and some players wait for the endgame when the King can make the dash more safely. The game can still end in the traditional checkmate or timeout though.

My personal opinion?
3-min time blitz games should only warrant analysis if they are a special game played by IM's or GM's.

Yes, I typically agree. In fact, 3 minute games are such a joke in my opinion that I almost never play any game less than 10 minutes unless it is a chess variant. King of the Hill (KOTH) is one such variant because endgames are virtually non-existent as the King in the center instantly ends the game. Actually, a big part in why I created this forum was to illustrate the fact of what a joke that game was.
p.s. That is also why my annotated "analysis" gives no evaluations or in-depth details on better moves; 3 minutes is simply not enough time to think for a real chess game in my opinion (some players might play well extremely fast, but even then - I am sure they would usually be stronger players under longer time controls).

I agree with this, I only play blitz games for fun, any serious game should at the very least have a half an hour for each side, serious tournament games have 90 minutes for each side with an additional 30 minutes after the first 40 moves.

Thanks for telling me what it is, well that's strange, yeah most players will rush their Kings out, hell I probably would lol .........well that means the opponent would really want to have all 4 central squares firmly under their control, hmm interesting. I think though if I were going to try a Chess variant it would be Chess 960 or "Fischer random" Chess. I think that would be a true test of one's Chess knowledge and overall skill.

Thanks for the feedback @ZionPureinHeart - I posted this game primarily for the comedy and shock value of how Black could recover from such a losing game, but then your comment teaches me about something I can use in an actual game
Sometimes I've also played 6...Bg4 in this opening, but I think I should play your suggestion more often. I especially liked some of the variations (more so the reasoning behind) that you noted. For instance, White not being able to break the pin with Be2 (since d3 was played) is an obvious fact I noticed, but I think I underestimated just how important this subtlety is for Black! Thanks for sharing your insight on this forum and especially for taking the time out to do so (I know you are moving soon and have lots of chess work from the blogs, forums, live streams and so on).
C'mon Zion! Let's both make the best of the time we have.

Nice!
Thanks. Sometimes it is good to have some fun with silliness like this because it lightens the atmosphere and makes "standard" chess less stressful when you mix in having fun with silly games via variants, funny lines or openings you would only play in bullet/blitz or as a joke xD
