it was IRL when I played against my dad, but I got rid of his queen so he was trying to turn one of the pwans into a queen, so I cornered the king with only 3 left (I won with the basic pawn*

Look at the position carefully, and remember the castling rules. It is not legal to castle into, out of, or through check. The knight on e6 prevents castling because it covers the d8 square. The queen on e7 cannot take the knight, because doing so hangs a king/queen fork when white plays the b knight to c7.
