New Netflix Series "The Queens Gambit"

The end game  episode was amazing. I cried. The  best cinematic series I've watched so far.

In one moment, the main character is about 16 years old and already a recognized chess star, and she tells her fellow high school classmates that her rating is 1800. Does this make sense? That is not the rating of a chess genius. A 16 year old with a rating of 1800 is good and fine, but nothing special. No movies will be made of 16 years olds with 1800 ratings. Was the scale different back then?

@dkinla. The 1800 rating is indeed a glaring error. Check out this blog: Chess Mistakes In 'The Queen's Gambit'.

@ExploringWA. Based on her results, both her provisional and actual ratings should be much higher than 1800.

Im here because of it! So it’s probably a good series haha so dark i think good balance to get new people who don’t know rules into it they have to play that balance of going in depth but also not scaring away people

Thank you for pointing this article out to me.

It’s funny how the only game in which anyone plays the Queen’s Gambit it was her opponent, and she responded with the King’s Indian. That title probably wouldn’t have worked.

I take that back. Spoiler alert, she finally plays it at the end.
