e4, but d4 is good to shake ur opponents a little and possibly affect their opening as they probably learnt e4 e5 setups

I might go with 1.d4 because it has the potential for the most prepared to win. However, e4 has far more creative options (for white) to do against everything which might be fun for some people. I do not suggest moves like 1.g3, 1.c4 and 1.b4 for ultra beginners, because you might one day return to 1.d4/1.e4 and you could have used your time improving your play in that instead. But just my opinion.
