10 minute chess is not enough for an improving player

Chess is an online game. Online games can't last that long.
For 1900's or ancient kings, they had too much of free time for their day to play chess while sipping their tobacco pipe.🪈

"You can not really calculate well in this time control." ++ Right.
"It's barely worth analysing because you simply didn't have enough time." ++ Right.
"I am always looking for big knockouts, trying to avoid blunders and spot tactics." ++ Yes.
"For an classical otb tournament, i am not sure if 10 minute game helps anymore." ++ No.
"Will I have enough opponents willing to play 30 min or 15+10 chess?"
++ Above 2000 it gets hard to get paired for 15|10,
though that is the official rapid time control like for the World Rapid Championship.
10|0 is officially still blitz, though chess.com calls it rapid.

I'm 100% agree with your opinion. I was always running out of time when I tried to do exact calculations while playing a 10-minute game.
I think 10 min games are bad for improving. It is better than blitz, but it is just long time blitz... it teaches me how to play without deep calculation😔
10 min rapid is basically blitz chess 3|0 is better if you want to play rapid I recommend otb tournaments
I improve a lot I play only 3|0 a couple weeks ago I improved from 2000 to 2100-2200
I think I'm seeing improvement but you can prove me wrong that blitz is useless (if you want you could challenge me to a 15|10 rapid game ) there are many different ways to improve including blitz

For beginners, it is also unreasonable because if you are just starting out, it is difficult to manage both the board and time due to lack of proficiency.
That's true you need the time to think but 60 min(or classical ) esc games are also bad since you can't get enough games in you need enough time +games to improve you focus too much on one you plument
I think 10+5 or 15/10 is perfect for beginners (I think 5|3 is also really good it's my personal favorite time control )

Jospem is your friend on chess.com. Explains why your comment is not relevant at all.

"It's just obvious that 10 mins is blitz."
++ It is not obvious, it is borderline.
'B.1 A ‘blitz’ game is one where all the moves must be completed in a fixed time of 10 minutes or less for each player; or the allotted time plus 60 times any increment is 10 minutes or less for each player.'
Laws of Chess
When it is 2000+ it is not enough time it is either 3|0 5|3 10/5 or longer it's because of time pressure in 10|0 is too frustrating if your opponent is up two min on the clock you are most likely going to lose
Also I'm fine if it is unrated I actually don't like playing rated rapid

You can not really calculate well in this time control. It's barely worth analysing because you simply didn't have enough time. My last game was kind an example of this... One of so many. I am always looking for big knockouts, trying to avoid blunders and spot tactics.
For an classical otb tournament, i am not sure if 10 minute game helps anymore.
Any opinions?

agreed playing chess online is not worth it just play at OTB tournaments they have much better time control and the atmosphere is much better if you want to get in the zone

rapid doesn't even even matter much the only time format that actually matters is standard you can't become a master by being good at rapid
That is true @Bobison123 you have to become good at all time controls (not perfect just good) rapid just isn't good enough it is too long
@22
"you can't become a master by being good at rapid"
++ Yes, titles refer to classical chess. However, you hypothetically could become World Rapid Champion or World Blitz Champion without holding any title.
There are also seperate FIDE ratings for classical, rapid, and blitz.

"Glicko, which is mathematically unsound"
++ Glicko is mathematically more sound than elo.
Elo derived his rating system in 1970 as a simplification of the Kalman filter.By assuming a constant RD the same for all players and keeping only 3 different K he could simplify the calculations, so they could be done without a computer.
Nowadays computer power is no longer an issue, and thus the mathematically more sound Glicko-2 system can be used, which converges faster, but at the cost of more calculations: a personalised RD and K for each player at any time.
