1200 rapid in 5 months is normal I would say. When I was a beginner I would look at graphs of better players and yeah, it takes several months to get to 1200. In fact it took Michelle Khare, a famous youtuber, 6 months in order to reach 1000 on this website.

It is too early to tell whether your progress is fast or not, tell us when you hit a plateau what that plateau was, there are people who just play for fun and plateau at over 2000 and there are people who plateau at 1100. For instance, I plateaued after 1 year of playing chess at around 1500 blitz, 1700 rapid, it took me 2 years to gain additional 200 rapid points and 300 blitz points. I improved a lot more in my 1st year than in the next 2 years. You can't see that 1st year progress in on my chess.com account, you can see it on my lichess account.

I hit 1200 in 5 months also, i crashed back down to 1000-1100 then i climbed up to 1380  5 months after hitting 1200, then i fell again to 1200 sometimes 1100 now im at 1300. In daily im 1450~ and pretty much win all of my games, i think the longer time controls is a definite thing, because i even reached 1200 in rapid after switching to 15I10, like immediately before i was always playing 10 minute 

You should join daily tournaments too, i recommend it to everyone around my level they are really fun it teaches you patience too.
