anyone 2000+ how'd you learn how to play? looking hard at my game at the moment but struggling, just wondering how one could learn the game? calculation? theory? study? i'm sure all three but thought of yours would be appreciated :)
In order of importance, I'd say tactics puzzles (tactics trainer, chesstempo.com), playing (good balance of time controls, not just blitz), and studying.
Until you get to around 1600-1700, don't bother memorizing openings as it won't help your results too much, and IMO your time is better spent on other areas.
Most importantly though is do whatever you enjoy and whatever is giving you good results. And try to stay engaged and active in the whole process. Don't kid yourself thinking you know everything. Always be humble and open minded to new ideas and new approaches to learning.
And get a coach if you can afford it.
