Carlsen could be given some credit for being the first reigning World champion in 18 years to participate in the Olympiad, even if most of the headlines have been about him being rested in the last match against Malaysia, and about this being his worst performance in four years. 2799 as worst result in four years is not bad though.
2014 Chess Olympiad (Tromsø)
Enormously impressive by India to medal ahead of Russia, with an average rating of 2631, without both Anand and Harikrishna!

If 2799 was my worst performance, I'd sure love to see my best.....
Russia had an average rating of 2773, i.e. over all the 44 games they played they outrated India with 142 Elo points on average, and still India finished ahead. The first board gold went to Topalov.
Carlsen is doing things that were last seen when Kasparov was still playing - so to criticize him is pointless. It's called "complete domination over his peers". If you bash him, who's your real world champion? BAH!!
Pia Cramling is in her 50s nowadays but scored +9-0=2 in the women's section.
saw that too. quite amazing.
Kudos to FIDE for organising such a well planned & widely broadcasted event. Congratulations to Magnus for participating and raising the profile of the tourney. Ratings are overrated anyway :)
To Tinko, post 547 and Trali, post 574, have a look at www.chess-results.com and you will find a lot of answers to your questions !

Sjugirov is a "2600 patzer".
There are 226 active chess players rated 2600 or higher. I suppose that you believe that the 226th smartest person in the Mensa is mentally retarded, right?
I believe English is not your first language. Never mind, I shall not bother to explain.
Explain what? The arrogance needed to call a player who is one of the 300 strongest active chess players in the world and hundreds of rating points above you a "patzer"? No explanation is required, and you are not capable of providing one either.
You clearly lack the comprehension, its clear.
Did you notice that I placed the (")? For Carlsen fanboys, 2600s are patzers to Carlsen. I did not say he was a patzer, you idiot!
Oh sorry, East Europeans don't really know what is a figure of speech...
You fail to distinguish between "its" and "it's", yet complain about my (reading) comprehension. Your quotation marks could have signified both a quotation and sarcasm, and your quote was not attributed to anyone. As for idiocy, the Czech Republic is located in Central Europe.
Oh, sorry. I didn't know you had to resort to being a spelling Nazi since you have nothing better to resort to. And as for Czech Republic being in West Europe, I think it's better to ask the real West Europeans their opinion. But as far as I know from friends in UK, they have always regarded Czechoslovakia as "East", before and after the split.
Nonetheless, my spelling inaccuracy is nothing compared to your gross misunderstanding of my figure of speech, wherewith you took it upon yourself to take offense to.
