Aren't Nakamura and So super-GMs? They're too good to be competing in national opens.
2015 US Chess Champs
what defines a Super GM tho?
any GM over 2700?
i mean... if they want the money, i dont see why not?
Yes, any GM over 2700. I remember when JV's had a tournament (non-chess sport) and I asked why don't they send some Varsity guys down since no Varsity stuff was going on that day and a teammate said it would make them look bad. Same principle applies here.
apparently they qualified by rating? idk man.
as long as Kamsky doesnt win it... last year was extremely disappointing to see him win after a lackluster performance and then winning because of rapid armageddon...
Him winning or not doesn't impact our own performances so why care? The games should be viewed as instructional.
this will be interesting....
looks like Naka and So are both participating which means one glorious thing...
Kamsky will not have the title this year.

If Kamsky is good enough to win it again then he deserves it, the "excitement" factor doesnt matter.

Why that matter? It's USA Championship best in USA should play in it! What's point of National Championship when top national players don't play it?...

he wont.
theres no way Nakamura or So will let him get by as easy as he got last year...
he himself said that he was very surprised that he won last year.. which shows a lack of confidence.
It should be crazy this year. Shankland is better than ever and Sevian is probably going to be the youngest guy to enter. Too bad NM Eswaran won't be in it this year but then again WIM Annie Wang is probably going to be just as dangerous being about the same age but a title higher.

Its not a lack of confidence, he is retiring after this year. He hasnt put in the study time, and was genuinely surpised he won last year.
