2050 in rapid+ need advice

Hurrah! I finally reach 2050. On the way, I won against two 2350+ players today. That is a huge accomplishment for me. Previously I never even defeated any player near 2200 in rapid. I thought 2400s are like calculation machine whose play are on another level. Now I realize they are pretty trash just like us as they lost several opportunities to beat me in those two games and still I won. A very happy day I would say. Also I have offline tournament this week. So I would be quite busy this week

However, I am noticing a very important thing. When I focus too much on Rapid, I lose Elo on blitz and bullet. Like I was once 2050 in Bullet and now I am hardly 1950 in Bullet. So how can I improve on that? Or should I just focus on Rapid or should I try to regain some Elo and focus on Bullet and blitz for some days?

I feel like improving in rapid would help you improve in OTB and blitz and bullet aren't to be concerned about if you're really looking into improving your chess.

Sometimes when I play rapid and gain a lot of rating, I get used to playing slow and calculating stuff. This makes me tilt around a hundred rating in both blitz and bullet when I try shifting time formats.

You'll get used to it soon

Yes, my OTB rating is increasing super fast. In the last tournament, I gained 108 rating

I didn't play chess tournament for 2 and half a year. Back then I was like 1000 rated strength. So it is very likely I will gain lots of rating. I almost went to win the tournament. If I had drawn the last game, I would have won. But I blundered horribly under pressure. But I will try to win it tomorrow

Focus on one time control to the exclusion of all else. I was around where you are now, then started focusing on blitz and here I am wink.png

lucky... lol but seriously no 2300 plays like that they don’t hang tactics they play like gods but better. Then again I have only played one 2300+ so I can’t talk...

If they don't hang tactics, then they would be rated 3600+, not 2300. THey hang tactics and that is why they are only 2350

I’ve played many people rated 2300+. Aside from one guy who hung a piece- the majority don’t. They know more theory than I do- and are quite good at positional play. Most of the time though- I’m usually down on time (lack of theory) and groveling to a draw (usually successfully) in a rook ending down a pawn.

Majority do not. But I had played a person who lost against me very suspiciously. He had 90+ accuracy on the game he won and then around 60% accuracy on the games he lost. That is very bad luck I would say
