Would you guys say a 250 elo increase every 4 weeks is a good rate of progress? ive been really trying to get into chess recently and I've been wondering if i'm at a good pace to get to 1000 by the end of the year. im currently about 700 rapid.

250 elo increase every 4 weeks is VERY good progress. I can barely progress out of 900 elo.

900 elo is pretty good in my book.

That's too slow , very pedestrian, set your self a respectable goal like 1000 elo per week

Yeah, I'd imagine you can get to 1000 before the end of the year.

I guess just be aware that it's common to reach a plateau and stay there for a while. You might get stuck at 700 (or something else) for a few months before shooting up again, so don't give up too quickly even if your progress stops for a bit happy.png

Thanks for the advice!

You could totally get to 1000 by the end of the year. But know that you won't get 250 better every four weeks past about 500. As you get better your progress will slow down. but 1000 is a very doable goal. It took me about 6 months to get to 1000. What time class are you trying to achieve it in?

I hope this helps you. Keep playing and good luck!

As a joke: we only count centipawns gained per game, not per week.

I'm currently at a -50 elo increase

You seem like you’re a pretty great player not gonna lie. Ever thought about going for a tittle?

In less than a year you'd beat Magnus.

Law of diminishing returns be damned.

Based on your rate of progress, I'd predict that if you continue playing multiple games every day, you will break 1,000 in July, and that's accounting for a slowdown. I just looked closely at my chart and looks like I went from 550 to just under 1300 (+750) in 5 months, for context, playing an average of 8.5 rapid games a day. +250 in 6 weeks is something you might get at the very start, but keeping that up would be impossible unless you have all day every day to spend on chess. From now on my own goal is +100 a month for as long as I can manage it, then +50 a month.
