3-Days Chess Play - a hell.

Why the 3-days chess lets play is boring is due to the fact that people don't desire the fun. One would rather choose to surf the internet rather than playing chess online for hours. Making chess game funny indeed requires self discipline... why would you start a thing you wouldn't finish. You don't dive into a range except you are prepared for rough landing. If you want this site to be interesting you better start a game and finish instead of just playing...., and thinking later i'm gonna resign.

Your opinon is needed. should this continue? Let's play a day game instead of vocational game.

No opinion is "needed", you don't like it? Fine, just do something else.

Why should we all stop just because you don't like it?

ok. then chose 1-day. or find people (like me) who make moves all day long.

I choose 5 day games but,  most of the time as soon as my opponent moves I move within a short period of time.  I have 5 day games because if my computer goes down or I have some other problem, I don't lose on time.  With 1 day games something could happen.  In other words I play a 5 day game like a 1 day game.  I find that because I do I don't have to use any vaction time.  Also I am not stressed out if something happens because I have plenty of time.  If you don't like it don't play.

Just choose the 1-day option.

Iam new, but i like about a 15 min. game. and a few in a row

chess is a game of patience, sometimes the opponent doesnt relize they have a move becuase of many reasons.. e.g one page of a forum is too long and so it might take them a while to read it Smile. but sometimes a person has to go for another reason yet stays logged on for the purpose that it would only take them 10-15 mins. another reason why someone might take a while to move is that they have other games they need to think about. a game of chess takes time. even if that time is 3 days. a fast game isn't always a good game.

I couldn't do the one day games. I prefer the 3 day games as it gives me the opportunity to go out for the night. Thus far i have played about 17 games, and lost one, and that waas because i timed out (it was a one day game) whilst out for the night and next day. As fun as chess is, social commitments come first for me. But my avg move time is still about an hour, despite having games stewing overnight, because i make quick moves all day when i am here.

Speed chess isn't for everyone, but it's how I started. FAST and FURIOUS. I learned playing 5min. speed chess games, and a lot of them. It's how I learned the openings, from repitition. And I'am not saying that it's the right way to learn, but it's what I did.  A co-worker friend and me use to play at work. We would play before work started, during break time , and then again at lunch. We did this for years.... I guess it's from doing that for so many years is why I play so fast now.Right or wrong it's how I like to play, but not quite as fast as 5min.speed chess anymore. A good 15min. game is alright with me. They call me Slowpoke now.

Mark_n_tosh you are in the same position I found myself with some players!

I like playing the game of chess over one day and get on with it!

Someone has suggested that, one can engage as many players as he/she can and that way you can be on the board continuously...I think if I got Mark well he means that he wants to start a particular game and complete it within a shortest possible time (say a day).

If you can not continue with a particular game at that time better inform the other player than leave him/her guessing as to what is happening with you!

Kind of irritating!

Play on Yahoo until we get live chess here.  This site is for the social and educational aspects of the game I believe.  The only things you learn playing blitz games are bad habits.

The "time controls" here remind me of postal chess which I played for a decade or more. This brings up questions. In postal play its allowed to use books and even computers in the games. What is, and isnt , allowed here?  I quit postal when many started using comps as I wasnt interested in spending my time seeing who's program was stronger.

If i played only 1 day games I would lose the majority of mine with a "time out", I have a very busy life with 3 children - therefore a one day game is just not an option for me!

In addition to this, chess is a game that shouldn't be rushed - if you want a quick game play a day game!

Using references like books and databases is allowed here. Consulting other players (whether they're human or computer) is not. I don't know how/if that's enforced. And some of the players here who insist that this should be a social site don't like the fact that using books is allowed. We've had a couple of debates on that. Personally, I like playing here using opening books, as it's a way for me to get better at the openings that I intend to play in OTB tournaments.

Originally I only partook in 3-7 day games because my life can be a little erratic and I don't necessarily get on-line everyday. So I minimise the risk of getting timed out.  But now that I am only allowing the same or higher rated players to challenge me, I'm very glad that I have more than 1 day. These guys are dangerous and I need all the time that I can get...

Go to another server and play 15min or something like that.

You guys are lucky your opponents aren't abusing vacation time...
