Who is this "He" you're talking about?

W_A_R_L_O_R_D

You would not know.

I will not say until HE comes and faces me like a MAN.

Wait me?

You are a young boy.

Young boys are pulled in by the topics that are always floating in the most recent window.

I have seen a very young boy playing a game on this forum, mid way through the game he posted a comment that his mother said that he was not allowed to use the forums on this website.

A wise mother from what I have seen on the forums.

I am a very strong player.

I am a naturally gifted player.

I have played with a grandmaster many times over-the-board.

I always give him a really tough time, even though I am very casual about playing and could not care less about winning.

Then I look at what is happening on this forum, and I will say it, it is nothing but silly games to me.

It has taken "chess" 2,000 years to get to where it is at but the games on this forum are a slapstick comedy that are slapped together in days, then each game hogs the forum for months when they are playing it.

Why the quotes for chess, because there are literally thousands of types of chess and here is the reality, virtually all of them do not work, yes they "work" but not really, they are not in balance.

Take Thai Makruk for example, a game that is still played by millions of people in Thailand. I love the game because of its charm and because it is the game that is closest to the original forms of chess: Chaturanga and Shatranj.

But the game has it's problems, the evolution of this game stalled many centuries ago, the ancient Bishops are much weaker than the Knights, the proximity of the Pawns results in lots of Pawn trades resulting in lots of games with few Pawns but lots of Units still on the board.

Then promotion only to ancient Queen, a very weak piece, the game is very drawish because there is only one major unit, the Rooks.

Fischer Random has it's problems, I have used engines to break it down, that is it's main problem, in my opinion, if you use an engine the positions are always unnatural and who wants to play that seriously? That grandmaster that I know absolutely refuses to touch it.

Even Western Chess, the game that people play on this website is not pefectly balanced, just one small example: 2 Knights can not force checkmate. Western Chess is only several centuries old, still in it's infancy in the overall view of the history of all forms of chess.

I have made games as well, but I will not go into that, I will however say that it takes years of hard work and problems trying to get it into balance somehow.

But on this forum, just knock up a game in days, then lets start bumping it man.

Not sure if age matters. Check this video - good part starts at about 2:00. What matters is courage - I only see one person on these forums who is too afraid to play a game.happy.png

Have you ever seen this video?

Seems odd that a person that likes 10x8 boards never plays it or Capablanca Chess, the original.

Bump.

What’s wrong with playing variants?
vickalan

In the video above (Magnus age 13 vs Kasparov) why does Kasparov take so long to make his first move as Black? Wouldn't he already have a favorite reply to any White opening? (it's at about 2:02).meh.png

Because there are supposedly 960 different starting positions

Ebinola

That's true, but Fischer originally called it Fischerandom. After he died, FIDE came along and said "You know what, we don't want the names of players in our games" for whatever reason and decided to change its name. A bit prudent, because there still exists Capablanca's chess and Bird's chess and Carrerra's chess, etc..

Mind you, those variants aren't 'officially recognised.' Whatever they mean by that. Your guess is really as good as mine. wink.png

Is there a variant of 960 in which white and black can have different starting positions?
