Playing White with c4 (English opening), I have been struggling against the "caro kan" defense with c6 with the idea of d5, what is the best way to play after that?
I know that "caro kan" would be against e4, but I don't know what to play.

Lots of possibilities.

If you don't like the idea of facing a duo of Black Pawns on d5 and e5, then there are a few ways you can prevent it.

Either transpose to the Queen's Gambit Slav variation with 2. d4, or else take control of the e5 square with moves like Nf3 or b3 and Bb2.

Check out Reti vs Bogoljubov, New York 1924 which transposes into the 1. c4 c6 2. Nf3 d5 3. b3 line.
