A Downside to the Windmill?

I have a question about the windmill that came up when I actually managed to pull one off in an OTB game with a friend between a friend and me in a casual OTB game.

What happened during the windmill attack was that a set of moves was repeated three times. After which, my friend asked if he could claim a draw by repetition.

I told him that I could not think of a reason to refute the claim, since technically he had the required repetition needed to claim it.

So the question is, "If you're the one getting windmilled, could you technically claim a draw by repetition if the three move rule requirement is met?"

The game ended in a draw as a result. Yes, I was somewhat bummed out, but the rules should be honored.

So if you get "windmilled", it seems you might have a lifeline to get out. Yes? No? Either way, let me know.

I had forgotten about asking this question but the windmill thread by DavidFei (which was pretty cool btw) brought it back to mind.

usually there are captures when u r windmilling someone so the position is not repeating.

Of course there is no draw. During each cycle, material is removed, so the position is not the same. I suspect you misunderstand the repetition rule. It's not the same moves, it's the same position three times, for a claim.

Sure, the same moves have been made, but the positions are different.
