why don't you play daily chess against humans?
A good chess computer
I do, but I need more live exercise and because of the reasons mentioned I find it hard to play live with humans
Does anybody know about a good chess computer to exercise with? The best way I'm sure is to play live chess, but the problem is with my situation with kids and work etc its almost impossible to find even 20 minutes when I can only play chess. Thats why I play daily chess and with the computer on chess.com app.
The problem with the computer is that it plays bad but me being beginner cant manage to take advantage of this irregular way of playing. It can start with taking pieces from move 3 and making the opening a mess and afterwards easily win with its calculations.
I would need a computer that plays more like a human. And that has an app where I can put the phone away if needed and continue later.
chess.com with all its users could make a database with positions and moves where the rating of the player that made the move is stored. Afterwards they could fetch moves made in specific position within a rate range selected by users. If the position doesn't exist the computer takes over. In that case it would be more like playing with a human beeing (I think). Just a suggestion.
did you send that idea to chess.com?

There are countless free Winboard and UCI engines available. Low rated engines or high rated engines that can be turned down to a low playing level.
As for actual physical chess computers with a board, the new Millennium Chess Genius seems nice. Not crazy expensive and pretty strong. >2200 Elo. Ofcourse also much weaker playing levels are available.

I don't know about mobile apps, but for Windows, Lucas Chess will let you adjourn a game in progress, and it comes with lots of preinstalled engines at all different strengths.
