Hi Guys!

I have recently been playing against stockfish level 8 and found this neat little trap from the scotch game.

What would you play here as white?

Hope you liked it : )

Yes, but you neglected to consider 1.. c5 or 1..Ng8 as alternatives to losing the piece.

If c5, we gain a LOT of tempo

If Ng8, all of black's pieces are on the back rand and white is having a BIG lead in development.

That’s not even main line scotch. You aren’t supposed to trade of knights and instead play...Bc5

But at first it is a blunder to play Nf6 after Qxd4. Correct is to play d6 and then play Nf6

But IF black makes this mistake and thinks that he is developing

@Pikelemi and @cellomaster8

You clearly do not know what traps are

Traps are when your opponent makes a tempting move which turns out to be a mistake

You should learn guys!

So U aren't supposed to trade knights

lol do U even know what you are saying??

Let's say black DOES take the knight because it is a possibility after all. An opening can have many variations and one of them could be the mainline.

And Again: You Should Learn!

Ok Chess Einstein, First lets get the correct definition for a chess trap:

"Chess traps are moves which may tempt a chess opponent to play a losing move"

I don't see anything in your example that tempt the opponent to play Nf6. Actually he should be temp NOT to play Nf6 here.

Since it is a game between you and Stockfish it must be you playing black, so it could be interesting to hear why you played Nf6 ?

So losing a knight is better than ...Ng8 or ...c5

ok...

Avatar of Alihene

I saw Nf6 as a tempting move because it looks very natrual because you are developing a piece.

I did not play that actual move but had to resign because I wanted to analyse it.

For example the fishing pole trap: taking the knight is a blunder cuz of mate. Your opponent may see that or not. the same here.

I have done everything right so don't say it is all wrong.

Did I say that losing a knight is Better than Ng8 or c5?

No - I did not say that and I also do not know where you got that phrase from

This trap works in bullet, hyperbullet and ultrabullet.

Avatar of cellomaster8
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 exd4 4. Nxd4

At this position, the best move is 4. Bc5, not Nxd4. As you can see, this move is very natural because you are developing a piece and placing pressure on the center

*4...Bc5. But if the trap works in bullet, why are you 1052 😉

It is well known not to play Nf6 when there is a white pawn on d5

d5???

You mean e5, right?

A perfect example of the fact that you CAN play Nf6 is the Alikhine Defense

Can you provide a few examples of this trap occurring during a game? I've never seen it before in one of my games.
