bad connection?
A puzzling strategy during blitz play

why would you have to disconnect to cheat? there is no reason. i can already pull up an engine without disconnecting.
idiots who think people who disconnect are more likely to cheat than people who don't are idiots.

There's two common reasons, as far as what I've read here and other sites:
1.People simply don't want to play anymore, but are bad sports and do not want to give their opponent the luxury of having them resign. So they decide to disconnect and make them wait out their remaining time as ''punishment' for beating them.
2.I've seen some people seemingly believe that if they disconnect the rating points will not be affected. A couple of sites have a kind of 'adjudication' thing, where if both players are online at a later time the game can continue (?ICC? ?Fics?), so maybe they hope to wait it out and not lose rating, but idk how these systems really work.
Can someone explain to me why players disconnect during play? As it usually happens when my opponent is in apparent difficulty, I can only assume that its purpose is to seek 'inspiration' from some external source and is, therefore, a form of unethical play.
When this has occurred, I have often asked my opponent why he/she has disconnected. Perhaps understandably, my question has never been answered.
