A Simple Plan

If u r a beginner or intermediate player instead of trying to concoct elaborate strategies in your game you might find it best to follow these simple ideas:

1. Safety first. Don't put your pawns or pieces on unsafe squares. Be careful what you do. The loss of even a single pawn could cost you the game.

2. Activity. Develop your pieces to the squares where they are most active and able to jump into whatever situation comes about whether it be defensive or offensive.

3. Time management is very important. It is important to take your time before you make a move to make sure it is the best move you can make. But at the same time you must not use up all your time early on in the game and having to scramble to make moves as the game progresses.

This plan encompasses the main ideas advocated by chess coach NM Dan Heisman in his instructional videos and following it will bring about an improvement in your rating!
