People once thought tomatoes were poisonous. They are not. If you decide not to eat tomatoes because you think they are poisonous, you are doing so based on ignorance. If you know they are not poisonous but decide not to eat tomatoes because you don't want to, you're making a choice based on your own tastes. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Some people might be allergic to tomatoes. They might choke on the tomatoes if they try to eat them whole. The tomatoes may not be properly ripe and give them a bellyache. Or the tomatoes may be for some what spinach is for Popeye. Just one little bite...

i had a chess opening book, and learned the basic openings ... but having moved several times since owning it, have missplaced it several years ago and have not acquired another... and dont use databases or books ... its like replaying another's game... using them would be a hollow victory... not of ones own moves but those of another.

and where do you think those lines in the opening book came from?

they are from other peoples games and for the last 20 years or so all chess books have been verified by engines. All the top players prepare for major tournaments using chess engines.

so anyone who has studied master games or learned openings from a book, i have to tell you you have benefited from a chess engine.

I would add that centuries before there were computers, players still played over prior games as a way of learning.
