So, I got my new Chess set. I'm really enjoying it. Its so damn big I don't have a place to put it though, so its on my computer table for a while until I buy a small chess table for it. Lots of people recommended this set to me when I first joined. It was a good decision.

I like the wood a lot. The one thing that makes me VERY nervous is the crown on top of the King(s). They gave me two "caps"/styles to put in (a cross or a spike). They fit very snugly into the pre-drilled holes. It looks like one rough bump and its going to snap off, requiring drilling out. But, thats not a big deal, really.

Beautiful, no more words! :)

Oh, I have something to add... White hasn't castled yet! ;)

Still not a fan of opposite colored filials on the monarchs, but it is traditional and I have strange taste anyway.  Otherwise it's beautiful and goes well with the board.  Glad you're enjoying your Christmas present.  I wouldn't worry about the cross breaking off unless you throw minitantrums after losses and throw pieces at the walls.  Or so I've heard....Wink

Nice set!

The first thing I do with a new wooden set is rub it down with oil soap until the shine is gone - I hate the way it catches the lights in a tournament.

Thats actually a good idea. I was wondering if oil soap or Pledge would be better. As you can see, the board is matte, no reflections. The pieces do give a reflection and feel varnished.

That set is gorgeous.  You should have a table made just for it.

It is not Zagreb 1959,but Dubrovnik 1950 for Chess olimpiad in Dubrovnik this year. Fischer like to analize with this pices.
