abandoned game...

I have had several opponents abandon games recently and the practice appears to be becoming more frequent. I win contests and I lose contests and I'm not opposed to resigning if in a no win situation and view it as a legitimate win for my opponent if I resign but I do not understand the logic in just abandoning a game. It makes no sense to me. If a player simply does not wish to proceed or is facing imminent defeat why abandon the game? Why start the game in the first place? I would be interested to learn if any other player has similar experiences..

I feel your pain. It really made me wonder. I had three ideas. 1. They believe they lose less rating when the lose on time. 2. Life got in the way. Things happen that take them away. We can't blame them. 3. They may either be think for a REALLY long time or are getting an engine up :P

I assume if a player has account closed it must mean the person has cheated.please reply so I know to continue or not.

Paul there's not been any cheating in the games and as it turns out I've had an opponent abandon a game when I had less time on the clock and facing defeat. Puzzling. I am aware that circumstances do arise that prevent continuing a game however I believe some of the abandoned games were simply abandoned for reasons unknown. Again, puzzling.

D-mate 19 I believe you have 3 valid points but in any event an abandoned game always leaves me wondering what the result would/could have been.

Can we see the games played by a player who has closed his account?

Not sure if/why viewing games of a closed account is relevant in this instance.
